LITTLE HEROES

Little Heroes ASD Support Group is a parent led support group for families of children who are on the autistic spectrum offering weekly support sessions, school holiday events, and parent/carer support sessions.

PEER SUPPORT WORKERS

The small team of Peer Support Workers have personal experience of parenting children with social and communication needs in the local area. Their experience as parents alongside their professional training enables them to support you and your family.

They offer support to families with children with social and communication needs in Southend. If your child has been referred for further assessment or you have concerns about their development in communication, interaction, or play and you would like support and guidance to find the help you need, get in touch.

The service offers:

  • Guidance on accessing local services and activities
  • Workshops on sensory behaviours and sleep issues
  • Term-time and holiday activities
  • Home and community visits, plus phone and email support
  • Assistance with applying for grants and benefits

LIGHTHOUSE CENTRE

The Lighthouse Child Development Centre offers services for children and young people aged 0 to 18 years who have neurodevelopmental and neurodisability disorders. It provides a comprehensive assessment service that identifies, investigates and assesses their development needs and offers appropriate support, intervention and advice. 

The centre also offers specialist services for children’s occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech and language therapy, providing assessments and treatment for children and young people who have, or are at risk of having: 

  • speech, language or communication difficulties
  • musculoskeletal problems
  • physical disabilities
  • learning disabilities
  • co-ordination difficulties
  • emotional or behavioural difficulties
  • acute or chronic illness

They see children when parents or professionals have concerns about a child’s development and/or a child shows challenging behaviour. The Lighthouse Child Development Centre also accepts referrals for Children under 5 years who have:

  1. Neuro-developmental (Behaviour & social communication concerns and/or possible autism)
  2. and Neuro-disability
  3. Motor difficulties
  4. Developmental concerns including global delay, motor, language, visual or severe hearing impairment
  5. Learning difficulties
  6. Neurological concerns, Downs Syndrome, cerebral palsy or other syndromes / genetic conditions

They are such amazing people. Every time, the group has different sensory things to play with. It really encourages my little girl to get into some messy play as she dislikes wet food. The group sessions are small just perfect and not too overwhelming and noisy. You get to know other parents too!

As a parent this session means my son has found a place where he can be himself, enjoy and build his confidence. As a Mother I am really grateful.
I can’t put into words how amazing these sessions are. It’s so lovely to be able to talk to other parents/carers, share tips and ideas and just have people to get it and listen.
I have been attending Chaos and Calm for 2 years now. The group is very important to us all. It is part of our routine and my boys get so much support, help with learning and socialising.

I cannot praise Chaos and Calm enough for the wonderful activities such as messy play with exciting themes as well as story time where the kids can run around and be themselves whilst hearing the story and seeing pictures. It is so nice to do something and Elaine leads it so I can enjoy being a mum in the moment which is hard for me to do sometimes, she is amazing and I can't wait to get our WAV in January to get to your groups!!
Chaos and Calm coming out to us is the only professional that does play that I'm actually content and happy around, It's all at his pace. There's a caring personal touch element when Elaine comes she's taking time and I appreciate that.
